Costcutter puts Shoppers First with new look store in West Belfast

Costcutter in Andersonstown, West Belfast reopened this June, with a new look and offering designed to give its shoppers a better range of convenience products and services.

The store known locally as The Gem, has undergone a major refit and extension as part of a national brand transformation programme for Costcutter in the UK. Using data provided by the Shopper First dashboard, the store has been extended and introduced a number of significant changes including launching a wider range of food-to-go and fresh and chilled products, many of which come from local suppliers to give shoppers a truly local experience.

The store, which benefits from the close proximity of both residential estates and local businesses, has used the detailed information and range design recommendations provided through Shopper First to reconstruct the store’s offering and create enticing ranges that will bring people in for quick fixes for breakfast, lunch and evening meal solutions. These changes include trebling the size of its fresh, chilled and frozen food section and introducing an extensive food-to-go area, complete with a small seating area, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Country Choice hot snacks and Ottis range of buns.

Larry Drumm, owner of Costcutter in Andersonstown, West Belfast, said: “The store has been designed to truly identify the needs of the local community and to offer not just the products they want, but a fantastic shopping experience. As one of the first wave of new-look Costcutter stores in Northern Ireland, we’ve been delighted with the results. The Shopper First dashboard data has been invaluable in shaping the changes we have made to the store and the additional space we’ve allocated to offers which are in high demand from local shoppers.

“The profiling identified food-to-go as a key driver, both for local residents, passing trade and the nearby new leisure centre, which is due to open in July 2019, so this was a major focus for the refit.”
Costcutter in Andersonstown, West Belfast reopened on Friday 15 June with a family fun day including sampling, special offers, face painting, balloon making and a drinks reception.

The Andersonstown store forms part of Costcutter Supermarket Group’s Shopper First brand transformation programme that responds to the needs of today’s shopper. This includes focusing on modern convenience shopping needs such as fresh and chilled food, making it easy to grab what shoppers need for their evening meal, as well as food-to-go for the busy shopper.
