Brand new Costcutter store opens in Doncaster

A brand new, purpose built 2,800 square foot retail unit has been transformed into a Costcutter store in Kirk Sandall, Doncaster.

Located at Station Retail Park, a new retail park to the north east of Doncaster city centre and close to a train station, retailer, Kopi Kalanathan, invested over £180K to transform the unit into a convenience store.  Featuring the new fascia format and interior finish, which has been developed through Costcutter Supermarket Group’s unique Shopper First: Drive Five to Thrive business growth programme, the store was designed using in-depth shopper insights and data, which impacted on every aspect, from range and missions to marketing and in-store execution.

Shopper data identified Busy Impulsers, families who shop for healthy and easy teas with a couple of fresh ingredients, as the key personas.  Using this valuable data, the store features over 15 square metres of fresh and chilled produce and a six square metre Pierre’s hot and cold food-to-go counter and sandwich bar.

Keen to strengthen his healthy and easy to prepare tea range, Kopi introduced a COOK handmade, frozen, ready meal counter.  To complement the food-to-go offering, Kopi installed a slushie bar – a whole wall dedicated to ice drink treats - offering 24 exotic flavours and a Porelli luxury Italian ice cream parlour offering 24 flavours as well as vegan alternatives.

Commenting on the opening, store owner Kopi Kalanathan said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the new store and the feedback we’ve had so far from shoppers has been incredibly positive and encouraging.

“We’re ideally located close to a busy commuter train station and within a retail park, so as well as installing self-service till points for shoppers in a rush, we have placed a real focus on fresh and food-to-go to meet demand and it seems to be paying off.  Since opening last month we’re already ahead of target and sales are steadily increasing by between 12% and 14% per week.”
