Local Pride is our exciting charity programme that gives stores and colleagues the tools they need to fundraise and give back to local good causes important to them and their customers.

From big ticket fundraising promotions donated by our suppliers, to cake bakes and collection tins, Local Pride can raise much needed funds for charities near you.

“We all need to give something back to our communities. Local Pride gives us the tools to do that, helping us to shape our local areas for the better and raising our profiles as responsible businesses.” - Josie Chamberlin, Mace Herefordshire

"I chose Macmillan because I have friends and family who have been diagnosed with cancer and Macmillan do an incredible job to support and guide sufferers and their families whilst they fight to beat cancer.

I am also part of the Macmillan Cancer Support Committee. They are a fantastic bunch and it’s both fun and rewarding to have planned a Macfest in July in aid of Hertfordshire Cancer Support.

Macfest is a live music festival for all the family with face painting, a bouncy castle, BBQ and hog roast. We had fantastic day, with a great turn out, raising over £4,000 for the charity!

I feel very proud of the team I have joined; we have all worked tirelessly and have now raised over £150k over the last 10 years.

My greatest achievement so far was to attend the opening of the Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre at Stevenage in 2014. A joint venture between Macmillan and the NHS costing £2.9m which is changing the way cancer care is delivered across our region. Our committee raised over £50k for the centre and to go to the hospital and see it in full swing made me truly proud.

My staff at Mace have also supported this cause, holding Macmillan coffee mornings in the store and baking cakes to raise money. For Macfest they wore t-shirts advertising both the event and Mace and sold wristbands in store. One of my staff helped on the day. He made and sold candy floss and popcorn as well as being a first aider. Thankfully his candy floss and popcorn skills were the only things needed on the day!

Another staff member directed and starred in a local drama production for the local hospice. Often we provide a bar for fundraisers and the staff are happy to run the bar at these events. The staff really enjoy being part of fundraising, finding it both rewarding and fun. They interact with our customers and help to promote events.

Fundraising in our local community has contributed so much to the Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre, where 18 people are able to receive their chemotherapy treatment at any one time. The money we’ve raise will go to Hertfordshire Macmillan Cancer Support so it stays within our region and continues to help local people.

We use the local press to convey our fundraising messages and shoppers often congratulate us on our latest events.

As a business we want to do the right thing but fundraising locally also enables us to raise our profile as a responsible business.

Other fundraising we have done through store includes wine tastings, quizzes and black tie balls. We also have provided catering and bar stock for schools, clubs and charity groups for their events. We frequently donate prizes to local charity events too.

To help raise awareness of our commitment to help local charities and all the work we have done, Local Pride gives us a perfect platform. It makes it a simpler option to collect money for good causes and supports us to give a clearer standout message to our customers in store."
